Honda
Dirt Bikes - After years in the wilderness are they back with
the program?
Mid
to late eighties, Honda dirt bikes, race teams and sales numbers
were 'flying' along. A factory honda rider was the ultimate place
to be. Bailey, Johnson, Stanton, Bayle, McGrath... the winning
streak of honda dirt bikes was amazing!
Of
the honda dirt bikes, the motocross bikes were shootout winners
and the XR range was extremely popular
Let's
fast forward 15 years and look at honda dirt bikes once again.
What happened?
Well
the XR honda dirt bikes remained unchanged, although a good solid,
reliable mount, dirt bikes from other manufacturers got faster
and more 'focussed' as well as getting the 'magic button' (electric
start). So while there buddies would hit the button and be away,
disgruntled (and tired) xr400 riders were cursing as they tried
to kickstart their beasts to life.
The CR range of honda dirt bikes spent more time focused on perimeter
frames and case fed engines. They were quite often the best handling
and appointed bikes, but powerwise they could be a bit 'hit and
miss'.
Fast
forward once again to present day and...
Honda
dirt bikes are back!
Class winning motocrossers with smooth, tractable power along
with the eagerly awaited CRF range each year of motocross and
off-road honda dirt bikes. A full compliment of mini honda dirt
bikes and things are looking good for the honda faithful.
