Youtube Video - Macedonia is Greece

Over 1.4 million views but what makes this video different is that it tops the list at 305,000 + comments. "Macedonia is Greece" is a video that sparks fiery debate within the Greek and Macedonian community.

This is my take on what is happening (i'll admit my bias as I am married to a Greek):

A province on the northern border of Greece (that is, within Greece) is known as Macedonia. An area where the worlds greatest conqueror Alexander the Great was born.

Now with the breaking up of the former Yugoslavia into a number of smaller countries (Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia etc.), the area on the northern border of Greece between Albania and Bosnia has named themselves "The Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia".

This has enraged Greeks and Greek Macedonians as they state that "the true Macedonians belong to and spoke Greek". Also angered by the lack of debate and prrotest from their own Greek government... so I hear.

With my limited knowledge on the subject I sum it up like this -

It's like the country of Mexico creating a new state or country called "The Former Mexican Republic Of The United States Of America".
